People are Stupid: Exhibit 1

OK, here is a question.

Why are parents more concerned about their children using “bad language” or watching porn than about providing them a stable, safe and relatively affluent environment to grow up in?

Let us analyze the outcomes:

If kids use “bad language” or watch porn, what is the worst thing that can happen to them?

Answer- Nothing significant, as long as they are in a stable, secure and relatively affluent environment. Guess what, they can figure out what is appropriate and generally acceptable very quickly on their own.

Now, what happens to kids who have a “moral upbringing” but an insecure, unstable and deprived environment?

Answer- They become jaded hypocritical individuals incapable of thinking beyond the obvious, just like their parents.

It does not take a genius to figure this out, does it? So why are parents in many cultures so concerned about their kids “moral upbringing”, while ignoring opportunities and possibilities for improving their kids lives through real and tangible steps.

Why?

My hypothesis is that most parents see their kids as trophies for increasing their status amongst their peers. They are, by and large, not interested in their kids well-being. The emphasis is therefore on appearances and make-believe rather than reality.

Many parents are guilty of short-term optimization while ignore long-term optimization. They do whatever it takes to make their child docile and well-behaved today, without realizing this will fuck them up for life by making them a wussy pushover as an adult.

I’m not able to visualize what you mean. Could you elaborate a bit?

It’s easier to Criticize/punish children for being “immoral” than provide them with a stable, safe and relatively affluent environment. The latter requires one to (1) sacrifice for someone else (2) acknowledge their flaws and (3) work towards dealing with/resolving those flaws in a constructive manner. How many people can do that?

The fact that someone can even say that is pretty horrifying in and of itself.

To keep it simple, let’s say three eight year olds start beating up a six year old. What’s the “right choice”? That the kid learn to “take care of himself” right? Cause ya know, if two men beat the crap out of the teacher, she’d take care of things herself, right? Right? If two men beat the crap out of the father, he’d take care of things himself, right? Right? Oh yeah, that’s a rule only applied to the strongest in our society, six year old children. ADULTS are to weak to be expected to do such a thing!

Or let’s say a teacher whines that little Johny isn’t submissive enough before her arbitrary, unearned, and undeserved power. What is the right answer? Why to drug little Johny, regardless of possible mental or physical damage, so as to socially please the teacher!

Of course, I’m sure you were merely IGNORANT of the situations I pointed out, right? Giggle, giggle. Of course you weren’t. You simply believe that children being beaten up and their their parents saying “not gonna protect you” has no effect on their emotional development or perception of their safety. You believe that “because”.

Of course there are a legion examples of more specific cruelty and demented behavior, but these general examples prove that yes, children’s basic needs AND SAFETY are but secondary considerations to many parents.

I know, I know, the same parents who froth at the mouth about the EVIL of Mind-Altering Drugs could never see the danger of a Mind-Altering Drug. Tee-hee.

How about a woman divorcing a non-abusive father cause the gina tingle has shut down. Do you doubt such a mother is incapable of rambling insanely about how her child shouldn’t use “bad words”?

Do you doubt FOR ONE SECOND that Priest Boy is going to ignore the harm she has wrecked on her child during his weekly sermon… which will no doubt rail against potty mouth and looking at “bad pictures”?

Really, you’ve know it all, you’ve seen it all. The fact that you have to ask the question says a lot.
