Living Standard Stability and Family Formation

Many CONservatives and other “concerned” groups bemoan the low rate of family formation and fertility. While soft polygyny, family law and other assorted feminism inspired bullshit has its role on the rate of family formation- there is another factor which is rarely mentioned.

The perceived stability of one’s living standard has a large and independent impact on the willingness to form families and have kids.

If a person is dirt poor or impoverished, there is little motivation to hold off having kids because things are not going to get much better and they can’t get much worser. Similarly, if you are very rich and can buy off the government process, there is no reason to hold off having kids- though the very rich are often too sociopathic and greedy to have them.

The hit in a persons living standard that comes along with having kids AND job instability combined with effective contraception do however translate into a perfect storm for everyone else. Anyone who is not poor or very rich has many disincentives to start a family and have kids, even without the effects of feminism.

For most of history, most people were dirt poor- so there was little to be lost by having kids. If anything, there were nice to have around and your only old age pension plan. Today most people have far more to lose than gain from family formation.

This is a consequence of outmoded but still popular ideas on intra-group competition, education, work, careers etc. Combine that with zero-sum thinking and feminism-inspired crap and it is no wonder that only the poor want to have children.

Very true. These trends are only going to accelerate as things like 3D Porn and ultimately sexbots hit the stage.

Low rate of family formation is one thing.
    The other things are:
    – no paternity laws
    – divorce which economically benefits women alone
    – criminalisation or social sanction for men who prefer younger women over ones in their harpy cohort
    – criminalisation or social sanction for men who prefer foreign women over ones in their harpy cohort
    – arrest-the-man laws

I’m sure women won’t mind men not marrying them since all men are rapists.
