Discuss: Why do “Educated” Indians Believe in Astrology?

Have you ever wondered why “educated” Indians, even those who work in STEM fields, have such a strong belief in astrology, numerology and other assorted superstitious bullshit? Why would any person with a half-decent ability to understand science and reason be so dependent on such superstitious bullshit?

Note: I am not referring to a casual or even passing interest in such bullshit. It is the very deep interest and belief in such bullshit amongst educated Indians which I find odd.

I cannot resist pointing out that belief in such superstitious bullshit is far more common amongst women in most cultures. In a way, the widespread Indian belief in such crap only validates my view on most Indian men being effeminate or totally pussy-whipped.

Isn’t all this part of Indian “identity” and “culture”? (if you get what I mean)

After all, shouldn’t “Indians” differentiate themselves from “Westerners”, you know, so that the identities “Indians” and “Westerners” acquire really different meanings?

“Have you ever wondered why “educated” Indians, even those who work in STEM fields, have such a strong belief in astrology”

    Because it works.

    Guilty as charged.

Bullshit? So you have done some extensive research before condemning Astrology I believe?

Believe it or not, Astrology is nothing but statistics. Did you ever wonder how, thousands of years ago people could identify hundreds of stars/planets for this purpose? Know how to use time? Use complex math for calculating their stuff. They compiled data of thousands of years of human life and mapped them to formulate a generic theory and called it Astrology.

    I think it is fascinating.

I believe it was used to identify potential risks in once life, as they already have data for people with similar parameters.

I personally do not take the advice of an astrologer. At the same time I respect it as a well formed ancient scientific theory.

Anyhow, nowadays one must take it as a suggestion than a rule.

The believe it for many reasons
    1. frees them from responsibility
    2. Irrational fear of the unknown
    3. sheer momentum of such beliefs. Momentum is hard to change
    4. strong mystical tendencies.
Yes, Indian men are quite effeminate and hold feminine beliefs

It’s no different from certain blacks who believe in all the spirituality, religious (Christian) shit. I’d rather follow in the paths of astrology than the former.
