A Quick Roundup of the Petraeus Affair

As almost all of you know by now, David H. Petraeus, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency and one of America’s most decorated four-star generals, resigned on Friday after an F.B.I. investigation uncovered evidence that he had been involved in an extramarital affair. Now there are many conspiracy theories on how this was orchestrated by someone in the Obama administration because he was gong to testify next week about events that led to the death of the US ambassador to Libya in Benghazi.

Now. being a cynic, I tend to look at things rather differently for most people. The following is my take on the events and what we know about it- so far. You may not agree with them.. but that is fine by me.

Let me start the story by talking a bit about the Petraeus guy. So he was born on November 7, 1952 (what a way to turn 60..). After finishing Westpoint he married a plain-looking but smart and connected woman- Holly (Knowlton) Petraeus. So far so good.. Though he seemed to a very competent, he stuck in positions far from the action for decades. Infact it is fair to say that though he had been around combat zones for years, his now famous mission in Iraq was the first time he was intimately involved with the real thing. That is also where he became famous for doing something that did not make the situation worse.. a feat that had eluded his predecessors for reasons we can only speculate about. Anyhow, his ability to not screw up things further made him a media darling.

Hot Chick

So it seems that the woman in question, Paula Broadwell, herself a bit of an overachiever married to a plain medical doctor, first crossed paths with Petraeus in 2006. Coincidentally she was born on November 9, 1972 making her 40 years old at about the time the scandal started to break. She is married to a doctor, Scott Broadwell, who by his looks and profession appears to be incapable of inspiring his wife in ways the 4-star general (Petraeus) could. He might also have known about his wife’s affair since an advice column letter published in the a few months ago looks a lot his handiwork. Infact, I considered the possibility that the mystery “government executive whose job is seen worldwide as a demonstration of American leadership” was Petraeus, when I came across that article on reddit.com in July.

So how did this whole thing unravel? Based in what we know so far, the sequence of events is as follows-

The original FBI investigation which led to public exposure of the affair started when they investigated e-mail threats to another woman close to Petraeus, or as we call it- jealousy.

The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell, a former military officer and a Petraeus biographer, and uncovered explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, the officials said.

Did I mention that Petraeus prefers gmail? Yes, even the CIA director uses gmail for personal correspondence.

When Petraeus’s name surfaced, FBI investigators were concerned that the CIA director’s personal e-mail account had been hacked and that national security had been threatened.

Moving on, the FBI interwed all concerned parties and it became rather obvious that Petraeus was “All In” Paula Broadwell. Yes.. her biography of him is named “All In: The Education of General David Petraeus“. I am sure that many people other than myself can think of jokes around that title and the events since that book was published. Did I mention that Petraeus was also on her committee of Ph.D advisers? and people thought that Petraeus was boring and square.

In my opinion this is one of those unfortunate cases where a pretty high achieving woman who was bored with her unimpressive, though somewhat well-to-do hubby, found some real-life alpha dick on the side. Can you really blame her or him? He found a very attractive younger woman who showered him with attention and sex, which was probably a nice break from the 37 year marriage with his dumpy, if intelligent, wife. But them she got jealous and acted like a crazy bitch and one thing led to another, culminating in a FBI investigation that lead to the public exposure of this affair. Since he was a very visible public official in the hypocritic USA, he had to resign. Other than that this story is unremarkable and just goes on to show how fame, power and status can remove panties of attractive married women- even those who have young kids and an OK marriage with a reasonably affluent guy.

Whether it is a small time drug dealer, sports-star, mass murderer or the director of the CIA- women chase exciting alpha cock even if their marriages or long-term relationships are very comfortable. Moreover, they don’t care about the consequences of doing so or its impact on other people- including their own kids.

What do you think? Comments?

Well… we know who will be avoiding drama with 40 year olds when he is 60, isn’t that right Unka Diaboli?

That’s why men should not marry women for any reason other than children.
Settling for a girl … becomes very costly later on when a better offer is on the table.
But the single man is always looked upon with suspicion … especially since feminism has only ever had 2 real goals:
    1. To make women the sole arbiter of what men should be attracted to, so that
    2. The older men cannot have a relationship with the younger women in order for the older women to have a slave to cater for them after they cannot attract the “hot guys”.

It’s better if the “jealous but crazy bitch” … has no credibility.
Then again, he would not be in the soup if he was not married. Back to point 1 …

Interesting because it shows that even though men are always belittled for being slaves to their dick, women prove themselves time and again even more incapable of keeping a hold on their fate — given the right “opportunity”.

For the rest, I proceed from the assumption that the leaking of sexual escapades especially by law enforcement is always the result of political manipulation and conspiracy.

The solution to a man having an affair is for him to show strong character and not do it. Women being hypergamous are the weaker sex here so its up to us to show some “chivalry” and just say “no married, sorry”

Also if feminism has one lasting benefit to men (and there are damned few) I hope that it erodes marriage enough that its no longer thought odd for a man not to marry . This will have serious consequences for the system it won’t like which will benefit all of us.

As to what P. Ray said, correct but its an endeavor doomed to fail. You can’t beat biology.

Of the scandals that came out of Washington in the last few years, this affair seems different.

Every body is very concerned and sympathetic to Holly Petraeus. Very decent thing to do. Well, these people seemed to know (assume) Mrs. Holly P. is a paragon of virtue and never eyed another man in the last 37 years of married life though she had an active professional life outside home; particularly when David is away in the war. And she never witheld sex from her husband.

In a similar situation, people forget the fact that (in all likelyhood) Bill and Hill Clintons had an open marriage all these years, both before and after Monica L.

All kind hearted people, hold your tears at least for a while.

How do you know she never withheld sex from her husband?
I’m not saying she did or she didn’t, just asking how you know this…

  6. November 11, 2012 at 11:56 pm

well, there are only 2 reasons to get married

    A. to have kids

    B. if you have a “political” position such as President or CEO and you’ll be looked at with suspicion if unmarried. And, yeah a general is a political position.

Obviously she used him to get access for her book. Same proposition as the ladies Diablo pays…. She gave “access” to her privates to get access to his story….

General McCrystal basically told the President to eff off and came out looking like a badass….

This guy could be thrown under the buss for something “bigger.”

anyways, they are rich and privileged either way, why should I care for their misfortune? They don’t seem to be losing sleep over all the innocents killed for oil….

As a guy who has been ignored by women most of his life, I enjoyed watching these two screw up so badly. For Petreaus – he was over-praised for his role in Iraq. Given how poorly American commanders were performing in that war, all he had to do was not do any worse. The improvements came when he actually sat down and negotiated with the Sunni tribes that were killing so many Americans. Yup, he negotiated and then armed terrorists – so long as they aimed their violence towards shared enemies.

As for Ms. Broadwell – looking at a photo of her and her husband, with his rather boyish facial features, I thought to myself, “The poor guy never had a chance.” Broadwell achieved the modern American woman’s dream – a supportive, high earning husband that allows her to pursue a career that is personally rewarding, but not financially. A nice home in a SWPL neighborhood, and alpha dick. Granted it was 60 year old dick – but how many women can say they fucked the head of the CIA?

In the meantime, her husband is fitted for horns on a national stage.

When a woman out of her most attractive years “suddenly” discovers you are worth being with …
try to move on, as Ackbar says “It’s a trap!”

Petraeus was a Paper Alpha at best. Contextually for Broadwell I’m sure he came off Alpha but the guy was an in-over-his-head beta.

The Paula Broadwell character reminds me of the floozy played by Nicole Kidman in To die For. Strikingly similar psychological profile. Apprarently, Broadwell’s talents are limited except may be for her physical fitness. She wrote the “All in” book with the help of a ghost writer. I am familiar with a celebrity writing memoirs with some one else’s help. But a biographer using a ghost writer?

Petraeus is no Alpha. NO Alpha will ever again be a General in any branch of the US military.

US brass makes a point of being Perfumed Princes who avoid dangerous things, like combat. A weekend bungee jumper is more Alpha.

Broadwell, by name – Shagwell, by reputation- was born in ’72. That makes her 20 when Xlinton took office and thus a member of the Worst Generation in History.
