Marxism is all too often taken to be a dirty word by people who haven’t the foggiest idea of what Marx actually wrote, mistaking it for communism.

I became interested in Marx a couple of years ago. I am still working my way through his ideas and the different criticisms of it. It is one of those projects that will last me the rest of my life.

He is a really interesting guy. There is so much richness in his writing.

In case you are interested – I did a fun overview of his work for a forum I sometimes post on:

Marx was a stinky filthy lazy ass POS. He never had a real job. Never bathed. Had a bastard kid. Engels came from a wealthy family and subsidized this garbage.

In any system, there are always someone wealthier. Even the communist had a class system and exploited others. There will always be shit work to do to make society function. The only reason those systems lasted as long as they did was because of self interest, you know, the same self interest that commies complain about in capitalism.

We don’t have real capitalism in the US or anywhere else, but limited government with low taxes is the best of the worst and will always provide the highest standard of living with some trade offs. If I were not taxed to death and forced to use a depreciating currency, I could be thinking about retirement or leisure a lot sooner. I’m still waiting that 4 day work week promised by the Keynesian frauds.

Well, an earlier Jew from Palestine had a similar reputation. He was reputed to be a wine bibber who kept the company of whores. And the human history is divided into before and after his arrival. Is he influential or what?

Seriously? You are going compare a POS like Marx to Jesus?

The comparison goes beyond that. Communism is the fourth Abrahamic religion (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam being the other three) that has influence over 1.5 billion people in the world today.

I’m surprised you have time to comment here sthtxs , I mean we mere mortals do not deserve the wisdom that gushes forth from your great Galtian mind…I mean I am truly humbled by your greatness sir…that said as a true misanthrope I hope you and people like you get EVERYTHING you say you want, while it will be rather unpleasant it will finally rid the planet of your ilk.

I’m sure the feeling is mutual. People who think Marx is something to listen to or think socialism works are vermin that need to be exterminated anyway.

Marx may well have diagnosed many of the problems of capitalist society. But he clearly knew nothing about human nature or psychology.

Communism as practiced in the 20th Century fails to live up to Marx’ theories, in that they don’t prevent the rise of a privileged elite. The currency may be political power instead of actual money, but the little person remains tied to the whims of these elites without any input in the decisions made “on their behalf” by the elites.

There are also too many people in the world to ever bring Marx’ theories to successful application. In addition, too many people care nothing about being anything other than pampered sheep, even if it means being fleeced. anything else is considered to be too much effort to be worth the exertion. House them, feed them and entertain them, and the elites can do whatever they damn well please without a bleat in protest.

Without Marx’s writings and the subsequent upheavals they caused, we would still be a religion/obscurantism controlled world with slavery, feudalism, patriarchy, and mideaval dark ages making a come back. The world wars were responsible for some of the societal ‘progress’ but I would posit Marxism generated communism was also responsible in part to the World Wars. In between a lot of humanity was crushed to death. A lot of humanity was killed around the world even after the fall of communism in the U.S.S.R. Instead of occasional wars we seem to have arrived at constant war. Without shedding of human blood (sort of korban) societies don’t learn, don’t change, it looks like.

I can not ignore the good Marx writings have brought on particularly from a third world point of view. Without throwing the baby with bathwater, may be people should take a fresh look at Marx’s writings to learn some life’s lessons.
