Here are links to some interesting news articles which I came across today. All are about the unpleasant and often ignored realities fueling the current round of mass protests in Baltimore.

Link 1: Nonviolence as Compliance

When nonviolence is preached as an attempt to evade the repercussions of political brutality, it betrays itself. When nonviolence begins halfway through the war with the aggressor calling time out, it exposes itself as a ruse. When nonviolence is preached by the representatives of the state, while the state doles out heaps of violence to its citizens, it reveals itself to be a con. And none of this can mean that rioting or violence is “correct” or “wise,” any more than a forest fire can be “correct” or “wise.” Wisdom isn’t the point tonight. Disrespect is. In this case, disrespect for the hollow law and failed order that so regularly disrespects the rioters themselves.

Link 2: Undue Force

The beating Lyles received from Baltimore police officers — along with the resulting payout from city funds — is part of a disturbing pattern, a six-month investigation by The Baltimore Sun has found. Over the past four years, more than 100 people have won court judgments or settlements related to allegations of brutality and civil rights violations. Victims include a 15-year-old boy riding a dirt bike, a 26-year-old pregnant accountant who had witnessed a beating, a 50-year-old woman selling church raffle tickets, a 65-year-old church deacon rolling a cigarette and an 87-year-old grandmother aiding her wounded grandson.

Link 3: The Brutality of Police Culture in Baltimore

What’s crucial to understand, as Baltimore residents take to the streets in long-simmering frustration, is that their general grievances are valid regardless of how this case plays out. For as in Ferguson, where residents suffered through years of misconduct so egregious that most Americans could scarcely conceive of what was going on, the people of Baltimore are policed by an entity that perpetrates stunning abuses. The difference is that this time we needn’t wait for a DOJ report to tell us so. Harrowing evidence has been presented. Yet America hasn’t looked.

What do you think? Comments?

The Baltimore riots is all about niggers being niggers.

Nature is taking it’s course. Only so many times you can throw stones at a lion before it bites your head off. But most people are stupid and they will keep twisting the lever until it snaps on their asses.

You’re right Mr.Odessa but that sort never learns…Thing is Baltimore MD has been on the decline for decades really and few even took notice…now people care? Give me a break…Frankly considering the state many places are in I’m surprised there isn’t more civil unrest.

@ AD “When nonviolence is preached by the representatives of the state, while the state doles out heaps of violence to its citizens, it reveals itself to be a con.”

State’s violence in this case, from memory I recount a press report, the national guard is called out (how many?) to help the Baltimore police who are 1,000 strong. Some 83 state troopers are also deployed (who are these guys? The military?). An emergency is declared in the city. I guess there is a ban on outdoor activity in the night from 10 to 5. The state does not take any chances. It crushes any civic disturbance with an iron hand. No attempts by any group governmental or NGOs to publicly reach out and soften the feelings of the offended and declare some solutions to the perceived problems. Our body politic, there is lot of room for improvement.

State troopers = Maryland State Police…and yeah things are that way because certain people profit from it and get off on it, sometimes both. I think the blightwingers who comment on this blog get off on watching the Gov’t crack down for example.I don’t think there are bigger morons than blightwing law and order connedservatives, the megabrains do not seem to grasp they could be next and I doubt their cap pistols will help them much when it’s their turn.

I can understand that Lady not wanting her son hurt but I wonder if she realizes all that could flow from her publicly dressing down her son that way…she really made a mess for him.I’m sure the young man is in more than a few people’s sights now.

I may write a quickie about that, but it was an embarrassment for the both of them. It is a symbol of Willie Lynch syndrome and black mothers being in constant fear of their sons lives, to the point to where she weakens him. Then she conducts an interview on public television.

In other news, I could care less about stupid whites who say shit like “It’s niggers being niggers”, because for one, whites riot worse than anyone else. It’s just called “war”, “law and order” or “patriotism” when they bomb other countries and create useless raids. Look at what they did in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1921 and now… look what happened when Kentucky lost a stupid sports game – but there’s not enough coverage for that. I’m not for people attacking their own neighborhoods, but at least there’s reason and merit for their cause.
