LIEbrals Lack Mental Capability to Interpret or Understand Science: 1

In previous posts (link 1, link 2, link 3), I wrote about how the seriously botched response to COVID-19 pandemic had exposed the profound intellectual bankruptcy exhibited by liberals. While working on another post on that topic, I realized that this dysfunctional response was similar to others displayed by them in response to a variety of other topics and issues, from belief in anthropogenic climate change to mindless cheerleading of SpaceX and Tesla. After a bit more reflection, it became obvious that one common thread ran through all these topics, namely an almost complete inability to understand science, specifically in the manner which somebody involved in hard science as a life-long vocation would.

But don’t liberals constantly profess to “believing in science”? Well.. that is just the first part of this problem! Anyone who actually does science as a vocation will tell you that it is not a system of uncritical belief in a series of “facts” or “experts”. Science is about observation and measurement of stuff and phenomena to derive hypotheses and theories which make further predictions that are validated or disproved by more observations or measurements. This is why scientific theories, unlike religious beliefs, will change a lot over time. Sometimes newer theories, such as quantum mechanics and general relativity, providing a better explanation for physical phenomena than classical physics. On other occasions, dominant scientific theories of past end up as historical footnotes after a better theory comes along. A good example of the later is how most older theories of geological change were discarded once the evidence for plate tectonics became overwhelming after the early 1960s.

Therefore, anybody who claims to “believe in science”, “science is settled”, “experts agree..” is talking about their faith, not science. To make matters more interesting, science is a very human enterprise littered with many examples of outright scams and half-truths peddled for reasons ranging from personal ego to monetary considerations. For example, prior to end of WW2 eugenics was a fashionable idea within the scientific establishment of western countries. Similarly, beliefs about the connection between “intelligence” and race were once considered to be settled scientific “consensus”. I could go on about many more such long-lived frauds as the manufactured connection between risk of atherosclerotic heart disease and dietary fat intake or the poor real-life efficacy of anti-depressant drugs for treating most common forms of depression etc. Let’s just say that the full list of such frauds is uncomfortably long.

My point is that uncritical belief by liberals in “science” and its “experts” is no different from that displayed by conservatives in “religion” and its “priests”. But the full implications of the statement might not be readily obvious to most of you. So let me explain.. Organized religion has, throughout human history, been used to justify everything from wars, slavery, genocide, widespread poverty and all sorts of unnecessary suffering on a massive scale. I would go far as to say that organized religion (of any type) has no redeeming feature sufficient to even vaguely balance a single major category of problems caused by it. And I am not just talking about traditional religions, because even allegedly secular ideologies such as capitalism, fascism, environmentalism, neoliberalism etc are religions in all but name. And yes.. I have theories about why most people are still attracted to shitty traditional and secular religions.

Anyway, coming back to the topic at hand- let me list a few easy to observe examples of how liberals lack the mental capacity to interpret and understand science. As you will see this results in them believing in another secular religion aka ‘scientism’.

1] One of the reasons I even considered writing this post was how western liberals have been beclowning themselves during the past year over the COVID-19 pandemic. While nobody is claiming that the pandemic is not real, its real life impact hasn’t been any worse than the 1957 and 1968 influenza pandemics- once you adjust for population and demographic profiles. And guess what.. the world didn’t shut down during those two pandemics. Furthermore, coronaviruses cause about 10-20% of upper respiratory infections in human beings- so they aren’t an unknown quantity like retroviruses such as HIV were in the 1980s. Thus far, there is nothing to suggest that the residual effects of COVID-19 infections are any worse than people recovering a moderate case of another common upper-respiratory infection.

But don’t tell that to the morons.. I mean liberals.. who are constantly getting their panties in a twist over the latest exaggerations about that virus- ranging from “new viral mutations” to “long COVID” and many other bullshit claims which fall apart once you start looking at the data and evidence behind these reports. The thing is, viruses like all other living organisms constantly mutate and some mutations get selected by evolution. The far more important question is whether these new mutations can cause a large increase in severity of disease. If they don’t- the rest is irrelevant. Also, coronaviruses mutate far more slowly than almost any other type of RNA viruses. But won’t these “mutations” affect the efficacy of vaccinations? Well.. unless your vaccine uses a very small part of the spike protein as the antigen, specific and non-specific cell-based immunity generated by the vaccine is more than capable of dealing with such small mutations.

In fact, vaccines against a number of other RNA viruses from polio, measles, rubella work just fine in spite of their causative agents having higher rates of mutations than coronaviruses. Of course, the moronic behavior by liberals does not stop there.. You might have heard about their insistence that people wear cloth or surgical facemasks to prevent COVID-19 infection. In the past few days, some of these idiots are even calling for people to wear two such masks. Now tell me something.. what proof do we have that such non-specialized facemasks work? We have known for over two decades that such facemasks cannot stop people from catching viral respiratory infections caused by viruses with the same general dimensions as COVID-19 virions. And it gets worse..

These idiots also have no interest in using repurposed drugs shown to be effective in other countries such Hydroxychloroquine + Bromohexine/ Ambroxol, Indomethacin, Ivermectin, Fluvoxamine etc. Note that all of these drugs have been shown decent efficacy in preventing hospitalizations and death in vulnerable individuals when used at normal therapeutic doses. These same losers are unwilling to face the fact that other repurposed drugs such as low-dose Colchicine reduce rates of death in hospitalized patients despite considerable evidence for such an effect. So what drives these dumbfucks to ignore multiple clinical trials showing varying but definitive levels of therapeutic activity for repurposed drugs against COVID-19.

Well.. in some cases it is simple racial prejudice because those clinical trials were conducted in non-west European countries. But in most cases, liberals don’t want to believe because the “priests” of their religion (talking heads on TV, mainstream presstitutes) have told them to not believe anything which is not “approved” by them. In case you haven’t figured it by now, this is the type of behavior seen in ardent followers of cults and religions.

Since this post is now over 1,200 words, I will stop now. In the next part of this short series, I will go into how liberal belief in “scientism” is the main reason they fall for other scams such as man-made climate change, viability of “green energy”, electric cars and the pathetic worship of Elon Musk who pushes scams such as interplanetary travel with chemical rockets and niche technologies such as StarLink satellites. And ya.. my views on the limited viability of extra-heavy lift rockets (over 50 tons launch capacity to low earth orbit) has not changed.

What do you think? Comments?

Ah, yes, you must be one of them “model mino’s.” Go back to China and take the Kung Flu with you. Don’t you know that just because you are smart, it’s not all that matters. You might have brains but your low T prevents you from doing anything with it like inventing things. Those dark skinned beasts don’t have intelligence but too much T. It makes them impulsive and useless even as slaves. That’s where Trump gets it right and a two faced “Republican” like Romney gets it wrong. Sure, Biden secretly is a race realist like me but he won’t say it publicly because he is cucked by the juice. I am perfect with just enough T to get things done and just enough intelligence to be dangerous. It is only because of systematic racism that I haven’t accomplished anything. Now go donate to VDare you useless coolie! I am your superior and you must listen! Do it know, reich now!

Actually, I enjoy watching how things play out with the Kung Flu … the outcome really brings home Martin Luther King’s statement “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” …

except here it’s “viruses anywhere – but especially from the poor that the rich like to exploit – is a threat to human health everywhere”.

It’s lovely seeing how it doesn’t discriminate so the colour of your skin can’t protect you.

Also looking forward to a lot of women “suddenly becoming non-racist” because CoViD-19 imploded the labour market.

It really did level things indeed …

Oh ya, one important thing that will affect a lot of mating habits of women – guard your wallets, guys …

Is the unwritten clause where if you have previously “recovered” from CoViD-19, you can’t get insurance.

Just like “white people slowly moving out of neighbourhoods when people of colour buy houses there” … remember, that is a business decision, not racism. /s

For a lot of regular/ugly guys, do remember if a woman makes things easy (and previous to Kung Flu didn’t do so) … there is a trap involved.

I wonder when those people who recovered from CoViD-19 will set up their own website, like herpesisnormal.com … one can certainly dream of their lunacy coming to light now, because we have started our first steps into the “Ludicrous Liberal Leadership”.

LIEbrals are slaves who are controlled by social shaming.

A lot of it is from public schooling. When a kid screws up, how does the teacher deal with it? They humiliate them in front of the whole class – make them an example of what happens when you step out of line.

All kids learn in school is that, in life, anyone who disagrees with whatever the “correct” position is deserves to be publicly humiliated.

This post is mostly the same Russian Covid propaganda you have posted before.

Don’t you have anything else to say?

“While nobody is claiming that the pandemic is not real, its real life impact hasn’t been any worse than the 1957 and 1968 influenza pandemics- once you adjust for population and demographic profiles. And guess what.. the world didn’t shut down during those two pandemics.”

This is BS. Hospitals were not overwhelmed by the 1957 or 1968 influenza pandemics and governments did not take drastic measures to reduce the spread. Even with drastic measures hospitals have been overwhelmed by COVID and we have 450k+ deaths and counting.

Let us get some things clear. The only two places in the world where hospitals came to being overwhelmed was the Lombardy region of Italy and Madrid in Pain. In both cases, the reasons had everything to do with partial healthcare privatization in those regions during past two decades.

As far as this country is concerned, even during the highest case levels things got as bad they had gotten in 2009. But let us talk about something related to this issue. In the 1950s and 1960s, western countries had far more hospital beds per unit of population than today. Heck, California has about 20% fewer beds in 2020 than it had in 2000- even though the population has gone up during past two decades. The same is true for NYC and many other parts of this country.

There were about 250k excess deaths than the past year and about as bad as a couple other years in past decade. About half the “official” COVID-19 death-count was therefore not caused by that disease.

“Thus far, there is nothing to suggest that the residual effects of COVID-19 infections are any worse than people recovering a moderate case of another common upper-respiratory infection.”

The status of this is still being studied, but the there are many reports of COVID-19 causing far more than lung infections. There are lots of reports of COVID-19 causing blood clots leading to strokes and heart attacks. There are also lots of reports of other organ damage caused by COVID-19. At this point I don’t thing this is a settled point, but I think it is very premature to claim the COVID-19 is just another upper-respiratory infection.

Talk to a few GPs about how about 10-20% people with moderate common respiratory tract infections end up with odd symptoms lasting more than a few weeks after recovery from those infections. You will be surprised.

Much of the rest of this post is similar propaganda.

One of the big issues about science and COVID-19 is that people are use to hearing scientist talk about largely settled science. COVID-19 is a new virus to infect humans. Much of the advice given by scientists at the beginning was based on experience with influenza and similar viruses and some of it was wrong for COVID-19.

We have known for at least two-three decades that coronaviruses cause about 10-20% of upper and lower respiratory tract viral infections. Also COVID-19 belongs to same subfamily as at least two other common human coronaviruses.

Science does not move in a simple straight line. When scientist are exploring some new area like COVID-19 mistakes happen. Sometimes everyone runs off following dead ends. Some lines of research that look very promising, don’t pan out. Some results that look good cannot be reproduced.

In the middle of this there is a kind of fog of war. Scientist should really not be talking to the public about the latest research results because no one is sure how meaningful they really are yet. It will take time to understand a new disease like COVID-19. Advice about the best way to deal with COVID-19 will change with time, but this doesn’t mean scientists don’t know what they are talking about. It only means they are learning more and are hopefully giving better informed advice.

“Fog of war” can explain how people acted liked idiots in March-June 2020. However we now know for sure that the risk of death is very heavily influenced by age AND multiple commodities. Shutting down the world over a virus which kills less than 1 in a few thousand for those under 50, about 1 in 1-2k for those between 50-60 and perhaps 1 in 200-300 for those between 60-70 is stupid. Also pretending that normal facemasks work etc is worse than wrong- it is criminal.

One of the remarkable themes in Event 201 is the extraordinary attention paid to Disinformation. The same is true of Covid itself. Despite all kinds of reversals by authorities on treatment, IFR, provenance, mitigation/containment, etc., the whole thing has been persistently presented as a war against disinformation and conspiracy theories.

Was anybody going on about disinformation in the aftermath of 911 or during the pollution & inflation scares in the 1970’s, or the whole Global War on Terror?

The most ready explanation for this concern seems to be projection, that is, projecting your own sins on the behavior of others. The saying here (translated) is: Regarding a man’s character, consider how the innkeeper trusts the guests.

“… uncritical belief by liberals in ‘science’ and its ‘experts’ is no different from that displayed by conservatives in ‘religion’ and its ‘priests’ …”

Which is essentially not very different from an uncritical belief in the intelligence of people in specifics versus their ability to simulate intelligence in groups.

Keep looking for those intelligent agents who are driving everything, they do exist, but for most people, it’s just intelligence-simulating monkey brain matter pulling levers.

They make really good Keynesians that way.

    Also, Marxists.

If organized religion can’t supply the pussy (or the means to maintain said pussy) and keep it from straying, it won’t stay organized for very long.
That’s the even simpler evolutionary game theory.

“Let us get some things clear. The only two places in the world where hospitals came to being overwhelmed was the Lombardy region of Italy and Madrid in Pain.”

I suppose this depends on your definition of hospitals being close to being overwhelmed. In NYC hospitals had to take very drastic action to avoid being overwhelmed. I know in LA some COVID-19 patients arriving in ambulances were forced to wait in the ambulance for half a day or more because there was no room for them in the hospital. That is pretty close to being overwhelmed.

In Silicon Valley where I live the January peak was not as bad as LA, but at the worst point 50% of ICU beds had COVID-19 patients. The county would have been out of ICU beds if it had not ordered hospitals to delay all non-emergency procedures. That happened with a lock down since early Nov. If everything had been open here the hospitals would have been overrun.

“Heck, California has about 20% fewer beds in 2020 than it had in 2000- even though the population has gone up during past two decades.”

It is also true that doctors have learned it is better for most patients to get them out of the hospital and back home sooner.

This does not explain why hospital beds per 1000 people are significantly lower in NY and CA compared to other states in USA.

and number of beds per 1000 people are lower in USA than other developed countries.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-03-13/why-u-s-hospitals-are-ill-prepared-for-coronavirus

    see this..

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_hospital_beds

A lot of the reduced number of hospital beds has to do with the insane way healthcare is funded in the USA. Hospitals with ERs are forced to treat everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. Insurance companies and Medicare/Medicaid negotiate low rates. People with no insurance are charged exorbitant rates, but most cannot pay and just declare bankruptcy or don’t pay. The result is private hospitals are closing all over the country. Several private hospitals here in Silicon Valley would have closed, but the county bought them to keep them running as county hospitals which proved to be very fortunate in 2020.

There is no free market in health care services, especially emergency health care. Basically hospitals/doctors vs insurance companies/Medicare. Each side is trying to squeeze larger profits out of the other. Private hospitals that cannot stay profitable are going out of business. COVID-19 has hit private hospitals hard, because treating COVID-19 is less profitable than hip-replacements, which had to be postponed to save capacity for COVID-19 patients. I expect to see more hospital closures in the near future.

This is one of the few points on which we can agree. The current “healthcare” system in this country is not sustainable.

“There were about 250k excess deaths than the past year and about as bad as a couple other years in past decade. About half the “official” COVID-19 death-count was therefore not caused by that disease.”

This is nonsense. The CDC says there were almost 500K excess deaths in the last year (bottom of this page: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/covid19/mortality-overview.htm).

Given that they don’t have the final data for entire year, let us hold our predictions. Having said that, a large percentage (over 50%) of those who died of COVID-19 were in the last year of their life. Also, countries in western Europe where we have such data show the rise in death from all causes is about half the number who dies from COVID-19.

“We have known for at least two-three decades that coronaviruses cause about 10-20% of upper and lower respiratory tract viral infections. Also COVID-19 belongs to same subfamily as at least two other common human coronaviruses.”

Yes, but COVID-19 is different from those other coronaviruses which as far as I know cause significantly less serious illnesses than COVID-19.

That is because they are endemic and usually infect children who develop immunity without any problems. Repeated exposure throughout life keeps the level of immunity high enough to prevent severe disease in older people.

Also there is the issue of partial cross immunity- which is almost certainly why countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, India etc have far fewer deaths than their seropositivity rates would suggest.

  12. MikeCA
    February 8, 2021 at 5:40 pm

“Shutting down the world over a virus which kills less than 1 in a few thousand for those under 50, about 1 in 1-2k for those between 50-60 and perhaps 1 in 200-300 for those between 60-70 is stupid.”

The let everyone under 60 just go on with their lives and somehow protect everyone over 65 or with compromised immunity may sound good, but how do you protect everyone over 65 or with compromised immunity systems?

Nobody has a plan to do that. Many of those people that need to be protected live in cramped multi-generational households and can’t isolate from their younger relatives. The communities that have been hit hardest are poor communities where younger essential worker live in households with their parents and grandparents.

Realistically you cannot, unless they are in assisted living. That is why I keep hammering about early therapeutic intervention using repurposed drugs which act as indirectly-acting antivirals such as Indomethacin, Ivermectin etc.

I’m not really sure about your death rates either. Currently 2 of every thousand people in North and South Dakota of all ages has died of COVID-19. No one is sure what faction of the population had COVID-19, but for a population with the age profile of the Dakota’s the true IFR must be higher than 0.2%. For example, if only half the population were infected, it would be 0.4%. If it was a quarter of the population, it would be 0.8%. For references about 12% of the people in SD have tested positive, but the true rate of infection is obviously much higher than that.

The vast majority of those who died from COVID-19 in South Dakota were over 80 and in LTC or assisted living facilities. Rates of death in this group approach 20%. Also most were in the final 1-2 years of their lives.

Based on number of positive tests, it is reasonable to assume that over 50% of people in that state have gotten COVID-19 and recovered (or rarely died) from it.

“Also pretending that normal facemasks work etc is worse than wrong- it is criminal.”

Normal face masks would help if everyone wore them, but of course it would help a lot more if everyone was wearing N95 masks. That’s not going to happen, but everyone could be wearing better face masks than they currently are, like KN95 or KF94 masks. Early on US government failed to ramp up manufacturing of high quality masks which means they are not widely available. Maybe the current administration will try to do that now.

Even N95 facemasks are, at best, only somewhat effective in community settings against Influenza A- a virus with very similar dimensions to COVID-19.

All you are doing is just repeating all the COVID propaganda that you have been promoting for the last year. I guess you have given up on Trump so now you have to pound on COVID disinformation.
